National Student Employment Week

April 11-17, 2010

The National Student Employment Association (NSEA) has declared that the second complete week in April each year be set aside to recognize the value of student employees.

Dear WASEA Member:

For those of you are not familiar with the Student Employee of the Year program, NSEA sponsors the National Student Employee of the Year program to select the nation's most outstanding student employee. In that effort, WASEA conducts a selection process each year to recognize outstanding student employees in the Western region. On this website you will find the necessary information for conducting and selecting your institution's 2010 Student Employee of Year. Feel free to print the nomination, rating and institutional selection form from this website (www.wasea.org).

After you receive the completed Nomination Forms from your supervisors use the rating form, and a selection committee to determine your institution's winner. After selecting your campus winner, electronically submit the Institutional Selection Form to your WASEA State Liaison by March 1, 2010 for entry in the state and regional competitions. State Liaison's need to have the state winners to the Regional Coordinator by March 5, 2010. Winners of the state competition will receive a plaque and a $50.00 check. The winner of the regional competition will receive a plaque and a $100.00 check and be eligible for the National Student Employee of the Year competition. Winner of the National competition will receive a cash award of $1,000. The winner will be announced at the start of National Student Employment Week, April 11th to April 17th.

Don't miss this year's opportunity for your campus to participate in one of the few opportunities to recognize, and celebrate your campus's student employees; don't let another year go by without seizing the opportunity.

NOTE: A student essay is not required.

Four-Step Check List for WASEA SEOTY Nomination Submission:

  1. Send the Nomination Form with a cover memo explaining the competition to your campus employers as soon as possible. Set a nomination deadline such that your selection committee can notify your WASEA state liaison of your selected winner by March 1, 2010. Suggested campus deadline is February 15, 2010.
  2. Appoint a selection committee to review the submitted nominations.
  3. Utilize these forms to Rank and Tabulate your nominations.
  4. Submit the Institutional Selection Form and the Nomination Form of your state winner to the WASEA Regional Coordinator by March 17, 2010.

Please keep in mind that the student nominee must have completed or will expect to complete, at least three (3) months full-time or six (6) months part-time employment during this academic year, June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010.
